This scholarship was established as an endowment to the MSU Foundation from family and friends as a way to honor him and to assist other Sigma Chi brothers in obtaining an education to prepare them for a career in the field of their choice.  There has been $15,000 donated thus far with another $10,000 left to raise for the fund to be self-sufficient and scholarships be awarded on investment earnings.  This scholarship’s endowment would provide financial support to Sigma Chi brothers for generations to come.

About Kyle D. Rogers

(excerpt from a letter written by Kyle’s Mother.)

Kyle D. Rogers was a proud 2011 Murray State University Sigma Chi Alumnus.   A member of the Fall 2009 Delta Zeta pledge class, Kyle was named 2011 Outstanding Sigma Chi Senior. During these two years, he was actively involved with Sigma Chi and served as Public Relations Chairman.

Kyle received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Advertising with a minor in Marketing. While attending MSU and beyond, he worked for the Athletic Department as the play by play announcer known as the “Voice” of the Lady Racers for 6 years. He previously was the sports writer for the Murray State News and a member of the Racer Band drumline. Kyle was always an avid sports fan of the Murray State Racers.

Kyle’s life was cut short due to a tragic accident at a job he thoroughly enjoyed.  He was the 3rd Distiller at Silver Trail Distillery in Hardin, Kentucky and took much pride in being a “moonshiner”.

While fraternity was not part of Kyle’s life initially during his time at Murray State University, he eventually found his way to the brotherhood of Sigma Chi.  As a result of his involvement with Sigma Chi, it led him to form relationships with a group of men he would not have otherwise had the opportunity to encounter.  These friendships evolved and became an everyday part of his life during his involvement with the fraternity.  He formed friendships to last a lifetime and a brotherhood like he had never experienced before.  Little did he know at the time how meaningful these friendships would be not only to him but also to his family.

Strong Arms….. “When Kyle was in the hospital, Mom told him that some of his brothers were saying something but she couldn’t remember what it was. She finally said ‘strong arms’.  Kyle shook his head yes. It was one of the three times that Kyle acknowledged us before he passed. – Allison Rogers (sister of Kyle)

The Strong Arms that surrounded Kyle and his family during the tragic events that unfolded will never be forgotten.  As a result his family created the Kyle D. Rogers Memorial Scholarship to honor his memory.
